RACES REGULATIONS 2020
…….MAYBE A CHAMPION!
The company ‘Sports Tours Hellas’ with the Prefecture of Central Macedonia and the Municipality of Aristoteles, the support of the Hellenic Cycling Federation, the Greek Tourism Organization and the Macedonia Champer, are in the pleasant position to announce the holding, for the first time, of a qualifier UGFWS event, on May 22nd-24th 2020 in Macedonia. The races will be held under the UCI and Hellenic Cycling Federation regulations. The Individual Time Trial (ITT) is 22.5 km long. The GranFondo will be 111,1 km long for Women and Men age categories. The event will offer results in different age groups. The age groups will be as follows: 19-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-64,65-69,70-74,75-79,80+ both women and men according to the new UGFWS regulations. After the end of each race, the first 3 athletes of each age group will be awarded. Qualification to the 2020 World Championship will be given to the 20% of the riders from each age category according to the final general classification and they will be able to race for the World Champion title, in Vancouver-Canada (10th to 13th of September 2020) World Amateurs Championship.
Riders are entitled to participate if they hold:
- a day license issued by the Greek National Federation upon showing a health cardiological certificate
- a master or elite license (not necessarily international)
- An elite license unless:
- The rider has been a member of a team registered with the UCI during the current year.
- The rider who has taken part in a world championship, the Olympic Games, continental championships or games, regional games, the Commonwealth Games, or a World Cup during the current year, other than events for masters.
- The rider has scored UCI points in 2020.
TYPES OF COURSES
I. ‘’Macedonia GranFondo’’ Individual Time Trial
Date: Friday 22nd of May 2020 Distance: 22.5 km, with 205m of elevation Start: 14:00 Venue: Ierissos beach area Race Features: Riders start at 1 minute interval. During the race riders must respect the UCI regulations. The participants must use timekeeping chips. According to the UCI rules, athletes are not allowed to have their own technical support or escort! After the finish of their race, the participants are not allowed to cross the finish line again.
IΙ. ‘'Macedonia GranFondo’’ Endurance event
Date: Sunday 24th of May 2020 Distance: 111.1 km for Μen & Women Granfondo participants Pre-Start: 08.30 (2km) for women age categories 40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-64,65+ and Men 65-69,70-74,75-79,80+ & 09:00 (2km) For Women with age categories 19-34,35-39 and for Men with age categories 19-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59, 60-64. Venue: Ierissos beach area Finish: Ierissos beach area The race course has is 111.1 km long for Men & Women in all age categories 19-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-64,65-69,70-74,75-79,80+ with 2085m of elevation. A pre-start will start from Ierissos beach area and after 2km towards the exit of the town of Ierissos there will be a flying start. According to UCI rules, athletes are not allowed to have their own technical support or escort!
For registrations after 29th of February, there will be a penalty of 10% on the registration cost.
For registrations after 6th of April, there will be a penalty of 20% on the registration cost.
Groups of up of 12 riders, please apply in groups so that you can achieve a registration reduction of 5%.
WAYS OF PAYMENT
After choosing the most convenient package for you, you fill in ‘’Sports Tours Hellas - MACEDONIA GranFondo 2020 ’’ in the ‘rationale’ field, along with the name of the race.
The registration is valid after a Pay Pal, bank deposit or Credit Card payment is confirmed.

THE PROCEDURE OF DELIVERING THE ENVELOPE
One day before the race you are asked to come to the registration area at the race hotel 'AKRATHOS Beach Hotel'' direction to Ouranoupolis, peripheral road https://www.akrathos-hotel.gr/ tel: (+30) 23770 71100 to receive the envelope with the race numbers, the regulations, the maps and the chip for the bike. The delivery of this envelope will be given to those who will have already paid their registration. In case of a group, one representative can receive the envelopes by showing the registration form.
The envelopes can be received on:
- 21st May from 16:00 to 20:00
- 22nd May from 09:00 to 10:00 & 19:00 to 20:00
- 23rd May from 10:00 to 13:00
The O.C will announce in a technical meeting (Saturday May 23rd at 17.00) the priority starting and the seperate start for Granfondo & Mediofondo participants.
The Organizing committee is going to award the first 3 riders of ‘’Macedonia GranFondo 2020’’ of each category, separately women/men, as follows
- In Men & Women categories there will be an award ceremony for the following age categories: 19-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75+ for the 3 first riders
All feeding spots will be announced shortly
Qualification to the time trial worlds is granted to the first 20% in the time trial race in each age category (of those who started the race). The 20% is calculated based on the number of starters in each age group and not on the number of riders having finished the race.

In addition the first three riders of each official age category will qualify directly for the world championships, independently of the number of starters in that age group. Riders must finish the race to gain qualification.
Age groups are defined by riders' age on December 31st of the year of the World Championships. At the UCI World Championships, medals and titles will be awarded for men or/and women as soon as 1 rider is registered in the respective 5-year age category.
In accordance to the UCI and Hellenic Cycling Federation rules, the race is secured with a third part insurance for all ‘’Macedonia GranFondo 2020’’ participants.
MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE AND FIRST AID
Mechanical assistance will be provided during all races. At least 2 cars and 2 motorcycles will be available. Additionally, the organization will provide a mechanic in the feed zones for assistance to the riders. First Aid groups will be in the feed zones and in some dangerous points there will be first aid staff and ambulances. NOTE: It is advisable to indicate your name, your blood type, a telephone of a relative, and any intake of medicine at the back space of your back number.
The organizing committee of the ‘’Macedonia GranFondo 2020’’ disclaims any responsibility for the participants and their escorts, in case of accidents or damage to persons or things that may occur before or after the events or in case riders get involved in quarreling with third parties.
The organizing committee has the right to exclude riders who misbehave before, during or after the events. Additionally, nobody has the right to give his numbers or using someone else’s. In this case, he will be disqualified from the rest of the races. A rider must respect the start-finish area and the course routes. Therefore, he must use the waste bins close to the feeding zones and avoid throwing rubbish in the rest of the course routes. Riders who do not respect recycling, will be disqualified.

In case of cancellation up to two months prior the event, the O.C has the right to impose 50% cancellation penalty off the registration cost (not accommodation) plus the bank transfer fees. In case of cancellation up to one month before the race, the O.C has the right to impose 70% cancellation penalty off the registration cost (not accommodation) plus the bank transfer fees. If the event is cancelled due to a natural disaster (earthquake, flood, etc.) or for reasons of force majeure that the organizer is not responsible for, there will not be a reimbursement, according to the regulations.
Moreover, an accommodation cancellation penalty may be imposed, according to the hotel policy.
The O.C reserves the right to change the above rules, including the routes, for technical or safety reasons. For issues that do not appear in these regulations, the O.C has the right to consult the rules of the Hellenic Cycling Federation and the UCI rules.
The participant, by signing the official enrollment form, confirms that s/ has read and agreed with the present regulations. Additionally, s/he confirms healthiness and ability to participate to these events. Finally, concession to the use of photos or videos in which s/he may appear is granted.
